About

Washday is a simple story about love, in particular the transformative love of a child for a parent. The film brings together simple rituals of daily life in a small Māori family binding them together with the land, water, air and the constant spiritual presence of our gods and ancestors.

Logline:   A father turns his car into a water pump while his young daughter becomes a force of nature.

One Sunday morning the water stops flowing into the house so while her father fixes it, Hine does the washing at the river. While there she devises a plan to wash away her father’s sadness forever. Washday is inspired by an ancient Māori story of the wind and the power of a child’s love.
